Have you ever created a sketch that you were happy with?

Have you ever tried to recreate it into a finished piece only to struggle to recreate it perfectly?

That was me with this piece titled, My Soul Follows After You.

I spent so little time on the rough draft. It flowed so freely. But redrawing it on canvas proved to be an entirely different story.

The struggle came as I tried to capture the figure following. Something nuanced in the turn of her shoulders I couldn’t quite get the second time.

Sketch. Resketch. Erase. Sketch again. My frustration meter rose. In a fluster, I shoved it aside and stared at it for a while, desperate to figure out what was wrong.

This was an important piece to me. I’ll explain more on that in the next blog post. But to the problem at hand I took a moment to pray.

“Lord, help me to create this piece. Let it be everything it should be. Amen.”

“He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:24

Stay tuned for Part 2. The struggle IS real!
